Advocacy

Advocacy can be defined as a supportive action performed on the behalf of another.

As family members, we all advocate for our family in a variety of settings, including school, doctor, emergency room, insurance company, treatment center, etc.

The purpose of this page is to give the reader information and skills to be a better advocate!

"Political decisions are...complex and mostly hidden from public scrutiny...Anything which stimulates more public information and debate about health issues is good, not just because it may lead to healthier choices by individulals but also because it earns a higher place on the political agenda.  In the long run, this is probably the most important achievement of health education."  G. Rose.  The Strategy of Preventative Medicine.  New York:  Oxford Univeristy Press; 1992:123-124.
